Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and atenolol is a beta-blocker.<\/p>\n<p>\u25c9 Amlodipine works by blocking the entry of calcium ions into smooth muscle cells in the walls of blood vessels, which causes the vessels to relax and widen. This reduces the resistance to blood flow, leading to a decrease in blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>\u25c9 Atenolol works by blocking the effects of adrenaline on beta receptors in the heart and blood vessels. This reduces the heart rate and the force of the heart&#8217;s contractions, which decreases the amount of work the heart has to do and reduces blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>\u25c9 When used together, amlodipine and atenolol can provide more effective blood pressure control than either medication used alone.
