How does the Drug work
◉Ivabradine is a medication used to treat heart conditions such as angina and heart failure. It works by reducing the heart rate, which can help to decrease the workload on the heart and improve blood flow to the rest of the body.
◉ The active ingredient in Ivabradine is a selective inhibitor of the “funny current” (If) in the sinoatrial node of the heart. The sinoatrial node is the natural pacemaker of the heart, and it controls the rate at which the heart beats. By inhibiting the If current, Ivabradine slows down the rate at which the sinoatrial node fires, which in turn slows down the heart rate.
◉ This selective inhibition of the If current by Ivabradine is different from other heart rate-lowering medications, such as beta-blockers, which work by blocking the effects of adrenaline on the heart. Ivabradine is often used as an alternative to beta-blockers in patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond well to beta-blockers.
