Repeat the process in your other eye if you have been prescribed to use it in both eyes
Wipe off any excess medication from your eye with a tissue.
Composition of Drug
◉This drug contain Homatropine 2 %.
How does the Drug work
◉Homatropine 2% is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called anticholinergic agents. It is primarily used as an eye drop to dilate the pupil (mydriasis) and to help with certain eye conditions, such as uveitis or before eye examinations.
◉ The active ingredient in Homatropine is homatropine hydrobromide, which acts as an antagonist to acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. Acetylcholine normally binds to specific receptors in the muscles of the iris (the colored part of the eye surrounding the pupil) and the ciliary body (muscle responsible for focusing the lens).
◉ By acting as an acetylcholine receptor antagonist, Homatropine blocks the action of acetylcholine on these receptors. This inhibition prevents the smooth muscle fibers in the iris and ciliary body from contracting, leading to dilation of the pupil and relaxation of the ciliary muscle. As a result, the pupil becomes larger (mydriasis) and the eye’s ability to focus on nearby objects (accommodation) is temporarily paralyzed.
◉ The dilation of the pupil is useful in various eye conditions and procedures. It allows eye care professionals to get a better view of the back of the eye during examinations and may also help to reduce pain and inflammation in certain eye conditions.
◉ It’s important to note that Homatropine eye drops should only be used as prescribed by a healthcare professional, as improper use or overuse can lead to side effects and complications. Additionally, since the medication causes temporary blurry vision and sensitivity to light, patients are often advised to avoid driving or engaging in activities that require clear vision until the effects wear off.
