Composition of Drug
◉This drug contain Alendronate 70 mg.
How does the Drug work
◉Alendronate is a medication used to treat and prevent osteoporosis, a condition where bones become weak and brittle, increasing the risk of fractures. The 70 mg dosage is one of the strengths available for this drug. Alendronate belongs to a class of medications called bisphosphonates
The mechanism of action of Alendronate 70 mg involves inhibiting bone resorption, which is the process of breaking down and removing old bone tissue. Normally, bone tissue is continuously remodeled, with old bone being replaced by new bone. In osteoporosis, this balance is disrupted, and more bone is being broken down than is being formed, leading to bone loss and increased fragility
Alendronate works by binding to hydroxyapatite, which is a mineral present in bone. It specifically targets the osteoclasts, which are cells responsible for breaking down bone tissue. By binding to the bone surface and being incorporated into the bone matrix, Alendronate interferes with the function of osteoclasts, ultimately reducing their activity and slowing down bone resorption
This slowing of bone resorption allows the osteoblasts, which are cells responsible for bone formation, to work more effectively and increase bone mass, leading to improved bone density and strength over time. By preserving bone density and reducing the risk of fractures, Alendronate helps to manage osteoporosis and prevent further bone loss.
◉ It’s important to note that Alendronate needs to be taken correctly to ensure its effectiveness and to avoid potential side effects. Typically, it is taken as a tablet once a week on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, at least 30 minutes before consuming any food, beverages, or other medications. Additionally, the individual should remain upright (either standing or sitting) for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication to prevent irritation of the esophagus. Always follow your doctor’s instructions and discuss any concerns or side effects you may experience while taking Alendronate.
